  • Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD)

    Damage to the mucous membrane of the oesophagus caused by stomach acid. Excessive reflux can lead to disease symptoms such as failure to thrive, sleeping and feeding problems, oesophagitis, wheezing, cough, vomiting and regurgitation. GORD may be a secondary manifestation of other conditions such as food allergy.

  • Gastroenterologist

    A physician who specializes in gastroenterology. Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine whereby the digestive system and its disorders are studied.

  • Gastrointestinal

    Pertaining to the stomach and intestines.

  • Gastrointestinal tract

    The part of our body going from the mouth to the anus and in which muscle movement and hormone and enzyme release allow food digestion. Also called alimentary canal or digestive tract, it is formed by mouth, oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and anus. The main purpose of the gastrointestinal tract is to digest and absorb nutrients and water.
